The 2nd round of the BRCA National Series took place over last weekend at the fabulous Kent track near Maidstone.
The weather forecast was for showers all weekend, so the drivers were prepared for some inclement conditions and the possibility that some runs may be rain affected.
After some up and down runs during qualifying with the weather indeed playing a factor, Darren was able to secure 2nd overall and the points that go with it by making sure he was consistent and fast. Joining Darren in the top 10 were Jonny Skidmore and Callum Niblett, both young guys putting up some exceptional performances to place their cars inside the top 10 in 7th and 8th respectively. Tony Truman and Ollie Currie made the top 15 and would be secure in places for the semi finals.
The track stood up very well to the showers, and its surface remained good at all times and by semi final time it was great. Darren would win his semi with a good and controlled drive to ensure he was safely in the main. Sadly Callum and Tony would not be able to progress, but BETA driver Karl Jackson did make it, having also bumped up from the 1/4 finals.
The second semi final would see Ollie Currie drive with assurance to make it through to the main, while unfortunately Jonny Skidmore would not.
The main final final got underway with Darren running in podium contention, but sadly after 15 minutes and electrical problem would appear, forcing him out. Ollie Currie drove excellently and despite a re-fire after a pit stop miscalculation he would end up 7th, which was an excellent result after an up and down weekend.
Many thanks to the Kent club for once again providing an excellent venue and track, surely one of the best around….The series moves on to the Herts track in June for Round 3.
